1. DESTRUCTION - REGENERATION - FERTILITY

(collection launched 2011)

Focussing on the direct consequences of global warming and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault: A giant vault located deep in the permafrost on the island of Spitsbergen, storing about half a million seeds, meant to protect the world’s vegetal diversity from natural or manmade disasters. However, if all the ice would melt, even this vault can’t protect us from losing the biodiversity... To translate my concern: I put seedlings into a small vault-looking protective space, So we can carry them with us, trying to protect what remains...

HEKLA Brooche & KRAFLA Necklace — Glass and copper containing a plantsprout cast in resin. edition of 50. Handmade in Anwerp.

These copper time capsules translate the paradox: the duality of carrying around fertility, a cure for destruction, a talisman for renewal. But at the same time the incarnation of one of the most destructive forces known to men...

2. PRESERVATION — CONSERVATION

(collection launched 2013)

Focussing on the devastating consequences of 'modernising' the Amazon, which results in the disappearing of tribes, their rituals and their knowledge. Burning their lands, murdering their peoples... for the sake of agricultural cultivation...

SAGE - A plant that is used for communicating with the ancestors and for clearing out bad spirits - as the remains of a disappearing era and ritual grounds. A dissapearing world... The burned sage leaf is a reminder of what remains, a last connection to the ancestors. By locking it in a double glass container i wanted to focus on their need of protection and the fragility of their existance.

Launched in 2013 for REMAINS OF MUTED BELIEFS and TO THE DEPTHS OF THE LAST RESERVE in an edition of 25 each — handblown glass and copper — handmade in Antwerp.
